CAP Services’ VITA program schedules tax preparation with total no contact procedure

CAP Services’ VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program located in Wautoma is offering free tax assistance to qualifying low- and moderate-income individuals and families residing in Marquette County. Our VITA program operates from January to the tax deadline which is typically April 15th.

The VITA program differs from AARP’s Tax Aide program in that it is income based. We serve taxpayers who have less than 200% of the poverty level as income. We do not limit our clients by age or by family size. We verify for eligibility during the initial screening.

“The Tax Preparation process will look very different this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.” says Connie Henn, Lead Site Coordinator. “We have prepared a method of preparation that will keep our staff, volunteers and clients as safe as possible. We also e-file our returns which gets your refund to you faster. Filing a paper return delays your refund.”

This year will be like no other as CAP Services’ VITA program will operate with a total no-contact procedure using secure lock boxes, telephone interviews, and virtual meetings (if desired by the client). Beginning Monday, January 11, 2021, low- to moderate-income individuals and families can call 1-800-660-5430 to determine eligibility and schedule an appointment with an Intake Specialist to begin the free tax preparation process.

As always, households that do not qualify for our program may choose to file their simple return online free of charge at
