Westfield Area Class of 2023 to graduate on Sunday, June 4th
Members of the Class of 2023 from Westfield Area High School will take part in their graduation ceremony on Sunday, June 4th, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
This class is led by Valedictorian Ethan Nemitz-Myer and Salutatorian Nadia Hoffa. Additional Honors Graduates include Cypress Anderson, Emma Hamilton, Sidney Hoffa, Caleb Hooks, Brandi Lentz, Tanner Popp, Rabecca Schwarz, Chloe Stampfl and Shealyn Warzynski.
Class of 2023 Officers include: President Ethan Nemitz-Myer, Vice President Chloe Stampfl, Secretary Athalia Giuffre, and Treasurer Abby Halverson.
Their Class Motto is, "Our lives are before us, our past is behind us, but our memories are forever with us."
Academic Awards night was held on May 3rd, awarding over $93,000 in 144 individual scholarships to 24 students, including: Miah Blacketer, Liam Carey, Hailye Ellis, Taylor Flyte, Abigail Halverson, Emma Hamilton, Kashton Kangas, Trevor Kraft, Brandi Lentz, Nadia Hoffa, Sidney Hoffa, Caleb Hooks, Klaudia Hornick, Jazalyn Hutchison, Alexis Lloyd, Ethan Nemitz-Myer, Andrew Palmer, Grace Phillis, Tanner Popp, Mya Reetz, Rabecca Schwarz, Mary Shirley, Chloe Stampfl, and Shealyn Warzynski.
Valedictorian Ethan Nemitz-Myer is the son of Rebecca Nemitz-Walters and stepson of Ross Walters. Ethan has been class president for four years and was a member of Student Council for three years, as well as a member of Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) club his Senior year.
He participated in varsity baseball for three years and was manager of the varsity boys basketball team his Junior and Senior years.
Ethan has also kept busy throughout high school participating in many extracurricular activities. He participated in Forensics in Oratory Speaking all four years. He took on the role of “The Munchkin Mayor” in “The Wizard of Oz” production his Freshman year, “Chip Tolentino” in “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” his Junior year, and “Shrek” in “Shrek the Musical” his Senior Year.
He participated in the SCC Choir Solo and Ensemble events all four years, advancing to WSMA Choir State Solo and Ensemble two years. He was selected to participate in the South Central Conference Honors Choir his Freshman and Senior years.
Ethan also enjoyed going on the Washington D.C. Adventure Program trip his Freshman and Sophomore years.
After graduation, Ethan will be attending Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, majoring in Political Science on the pre-law track and minoring in music. He eventually wants to attend law school at the University of Iowa, with the long-term goal of becoming a lawyer.
Salutatorian Nadia Hoffa is the daughter of James and Jaclyn Hoffa. She has kept very busy these past four years with academics and extracurriculars, including sports. Besides achieving the High and Principal’s Honor Rolls for four years, she was a member of National Society Society, currently serving as president. She was selected to attend the American Legion Auxiliary’s Badger Girls State, received Social Studies Department Student of the Month her Senior year and a Career & Technical Education Department Junior Chef Award last year.
Nadia has earned Spanish Department Student of the Month as a Sophomore and earned honorable mention and bronze medal awards from the National Spanish Examination. She serves as treasurer of Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA), has been Student Council Representative for four years, is currently a section leader in band, and was a Band Student of the Month this year.
Her sports involvement included volleyball, basketball and softball. She has served as a Captain and received varsity letters in all three, along with Athlete of the Month awards in volleyball and softball. Basketball saw many special moments for her, including helping the team win South Central Conference Champion awards three years and qualifying for State playoffs two years. She was also named to 2nd Team All-Conference in basketball twice and in softball she was named Unanimous 1st Team All-Conference Outfielder two times.
After graduation she plans to attend Ripon College to pursue a career in finance and business management. She wants to work toward her dream job of becoming an accountant. She also has committed to play women’s basketball at Ripon, starting this fall!
