Autumn views over Buffalo Lake
There’s not much “lake” left on the Montello end of Buffalo Lake these days (pictured above), as the drawdown of the lake has been underway for the past few weeks in preparation for repair of the dredge bank road area in town. While we’re enjoying the beautiful fall views and turning leaves, like those shown here, the water view isn’t quite that picturesque. However, bird lovers are thoroughly enjoying great views many exciting species, like Sandpipers, Great Blue Herons, American Pelicans, Tree Swallows, and many more, plus everyone’s favorite, Bald Eagles.

Buffalo Lake Dam information meeting

MONTELLO, Wis. – The Department of Natural Resources is holding a public informational meeting Saturday, October 13, at the Montello High School to provide residents with an update on the status of the reconstruction of the Buffalo Lake Dam in Marquette County, also known as the dredge bank.

“We plan to share preliminary design plans with area folks in an effort to keep the community up to date on the status of the project,” explained Brent Binder, natural resources engineer.  “Mead & Hunt has provided preliminary plans for the work to be completed at the dam.  We’d also like to get feedback from area residents about what they think.”

The meeting will be held at Montello High School from 10:30 a.m. until noon on Saturday October 13.  Mead & Hunt staff will describe the preliminary plans during a brief presentation.  The presentation will be followed with ample time for a group question and answer session.  Staff will also be available after the meeting if individuals would like to view the plans and ask questions in a smaller group setting.
