Marquette County Salvation Army Seeks Bell Ringers

It is bell-ringing time again in Marquette County.  On Friday, November 15th, individuals and families will be ringing in the start of the 2013 Red Kettle Campaign for The Salvation Army.  Kettle Coordinator Judi Pugh is looking for people young and old to tend the red kettles over this 6-week event.  Funds raised provide emergency assistance to Marquette County residents in need through the next year.  Over 200 volunteers of all ages rang a bell last year to help raise more than $24,000.

“Reaching out to those in need by volunteering to ring bells is a wonderful way to connect with the community, to give back, and to share blessings and holiday joy,” said Judi.  She explained that the bell ringers are the heart of the Red Kettle Campaign.
They ring in Montello, Westfield, Oxford, Neshkoro and Endeavor on Fridays and Saturdays and occasionally on other days through till Christmas Eve.  \

A volunteer’s job is to ring a bell and offer those passing by a pleasant opportunity to give during each 2-hour shift.  A cheerful “Have a good day” or “Merry Christmas” lifts everyone’s spirits.  While ringing together, moms, dads and grandparents can instill in their children and grandchildren the satisfaction of helping others.  Club, church and volunteer groups add to the mix.  The schedule already includes Lions and Lionesses from Neshkoro and Endeavor, members of Harrisville’s Sportmen’s Club, Harris HCE club volunteers, and Westfield Cub Scouts and their families.
